YOM MISSION

YOM [Yoga off the Mat) is a special development program at UYA that offers underprivileged young adults the chance for a life better than the impoverished or traumatic ones they grew up in.

This positive change begins with the cultivation of confidence and leadership skills through personal development in tandem with a yoga and meditation practice. YOM consists of a specially designed curriculum by UYA combining philosophy, anatomy, Khmer history and asanas. Beneficiaries can also avail of regularly scheduled mentoring events aligned with asana lessons.

Daily reflection and meditation encourage mindful living and connection, which develop a sense of responsibility not just for the individual and his immediate environment but everyone’s relationship with the universe.

Many YOM beneficiaries have other career plans outside the yoga world and this program provides alternative opportunities to incorporate yoga self-practice in daily life; establish a foundation for teaching; become a Kids Yoga teacher; and/or eventually become internationally certified Yoga teachers.

Whatever direction they choose in their lives and careers, the YOM experience will contribute greatly and positively to their discipline, approaching challenges and tackling greater responsibilities in life.
